Finding Awe in Nature on Earth Day and Everyday 🌎 🌱

“It is an incalculable added pleasure to any one’s sum of happiness if he or she grows to know, even slightly and imperfectly, how to read and enjoy the wonder-book of nature.” — Theodore Roosevelt

Hello Reader,

Happy Earth Day!

When I was a child, my family drove from Colorado to Texas at least once a year. All of our relatives lived in Texas, from grandparents to aunts, uncles, and cousins. So, while I grew up in Colorado and am forever a Westerner, I have a special soft spot for Texas. The landscapes of West Texas are etched in my soul and provide fertile ground for meditation and relaxation. Incredible wildflowers, sunsets that go on forever, and an endless array of farmhouses, silos, and windmills tell the story of the land.

I recently returned from a family trip to Texas to view the solar eclipse and visit some old family properties. I haven’t been to Texas in close to a decade now that my grandparents are no longer with us. It was very grounding to be back there. And, I was struck by the sheer number of folks gathering in sleepy little Texas towns in hopes of experiencing the splendor of a total solar eclipse. People came from all over the place to witness a very wild and natural rhythm…that of the dance of the sun and moon.

It filled my heart to see how much this unique event mattered to so many people. It also got me thinking about how simply choosing to see awe, magic, and miracles in the world around us allows us to be amazed and awestruck on a daily basis. Perhaps the earth herself might appreciate more acknowledgment of the myriad of miracles that happen daily all around each of us.

Finding awe in each inspiring day was the topic explored on this month’s Robust Lifestyles podcast. I am truly honored to be a returning monthly guest on this show. I hope you enjoy this episode. I found the conversation deeply inspiring!
